Distracted Driving continues to be one of the leading causes of accidents across the country. Each year, distracted drivers cause thousands of bicycle accidents, car accidents, truck accidents, and motorcycle accidents. Far too often, innocent people are serious injured or even killed in texting and driving accidents and unfortunately, many times the victims are the passengers in texting driver’s car.
Texting and Driving Statistics
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that texting and driving continues to be a big safety problem across the country. The latest statistics published by the agency’s website for districted driving, 3,328 people died in distracted driving accidents across the country, and 421,000 more were injured. Researchers have also found that drivers travel the length of a football field without looking at the road when they send and receive text messages and that texting drivers are 23 times more likely to have a crash while being distracted by their wireless devices.
