Roof Damage Checklist

Use this checklist to identify the most common sources of roof damage. If you see roof damage after a hurricane, call the Clore Law Group for a free consultation.

Inspect shingles:

  • Look for cracks in shingles
  • Look for broken or missing tabs
  • Look for buckling or curling shingles
  • Look for blistering of tabs
  • Look for most of the granules worn off tabs

Inspect roof penetrations; look for:

  • Check to see that penetrations are well sealed and tight
  • Check to see if there are gaps and/or missing sealant
  • Check for badly deteriorated holes and gaps

Inspect ridge vents:

  • Check to make sure they are solidly attached
  • Check to see if vents wiggle back and forth
  • Check to see if there are screws attaching turbines or caps off-ridge vent

Inspect for roof leaks:

  • Check for signs of leaks inside the attic
  • Check for water stains on roof decking – look around the chimney, around vents and pipes and valleys
  • Check for signs of discolored roofing deck, rafters or trusses

Inspect for signs of leaks from inside the house

  • Look for water stains on ceiling
  • Look for cracked wall or ceiling paint
  • Look for peeling wall paper
